I have some newborn sessions coming up, and I thought it would be fun to make some little bow ties for the boys! These were super easy, so I thought I'd post a tutorial. I made these with boys in mind, but you could also attach them to headbands or hair clips for girls.

Here's what you'll need:

  • Fabric ( I picked up a few from Hob Lob, but if you have scraps of fabric you like, that will work great too)
  • Ruler
  • Scissors
  • Needle and thread (or using a glue gun is a no-sew option)
Step 1: Cut two pieces of fabric, the larger one should be 7x5" and the smaller one should be 2.25"x2.25"Step 2-3: Take the larger piece and flip it over, to wear the print is face down. Then fold it into thirds lengthwise.Step 4: Take each end and …

Step 1: Cut two pieces of fabric, the larger one should be 7x5" and the smaller one should be 2.25"x2.25"

Step 2-3: Take the larger piece and flip it over, to wear the print is face down. Then fold it into thirds lengthwise.

Step 4: Take each end and fold them in so they meet in the middle. 

Step 5: Flip the folded piece of fabric over and pinch it in half as shown. Step 6: Using your needle and thread (or hot glue gun) sew (or glue) the crease so that the fold stays put.

At this point, it should look something like this.

Step 7: Next, take the smaller piece of fabric and fold it into thirds.Step 8: Wrap the folded fabric around the bow tie and sew (or glue) it together in the back. Cut off any excess fabric.

(You can attach the bow tie to a onesie with a safety pin, make a strap for the bow tie, or sew it on permanently.)
